7 Wonders of World

The 7 Wonders of the World are all those amazing monuments in the world that are known for their beauty and architecture since ages. Scores of tourists from different parts of the world make a point to see these 7 wonders of the world to appreciate the beauty, the architecture and know about the history behind them. On July, 2007, the results of 7 wonders of world were declared in Lisbon, Portugal. In the year 2009, a campaign was introduced just to choose amazing 7 wonders of the world (man-made). Innumerous people took participation in the poll and came forward to cast a vote for their best choice. Jury consisted of acclaimed judges from various parts of the world. Over 100 million votes came to select the fabulous 7 wonders of the world.

Philon of Byzantium brought this whole concept of selecting the 7 wonders of the world in 200 B.C. The main objective behind it was to create a travel guide that will assist people of Athens. The sites chosen were all man-made and were situated in the Mediterranean Sea basin. Unfortunately, only one of these monuments is still surviving and its amazing Pyramids of Egypt. Rest of the six was: the Statue of Zeus, the Lighthouse of Alexandria, the temple of Artemis, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, and the Colossus of Rhodes.
